High speed internet is definitely the way to go if your area and telephone exchange is broadband ADSL enabled. There are a great number of high-speed internet service provider options available to new customers, and Boltblue (plus others) are excellent places to learn more about the subject, and find out if you can get the new service in your area. For more remote rural areas there are community wireless broadband schemes being launched which provide a high-speed net link to a central village location, and dishes out an ADSL connection via wireless to nearby homes, who each have a receiver on the roof of their house. Cable internet access is also a possibility for some outlying areas.
Finding the best options for you in the supply of broadband can be a headache, with many companies offering to connect you to the high speed web at very affordable prices, though it is essential to read between the lines as connection speed packages vary hugely. Some offerings are fairly slow which may suit some users (150k), whereas most people opt for a minimum of a 512k connection. For those willing to spend more money, perhaps if online gaming is a popular pastime, then 1Mb and pricier 2Mb DSL packages are available for a price. Most users would find 512k more than adequate, and distinctly faster and more reliable than getting online using a traditional, albeit low cost, 56k modem connection.
